Varsity Reds Shut-out SMU

(HALIFAX, NS) An Alex O'Brien goal, in the 43rd minute, proved to be the game winner, as the UNB Varsity Reds defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-0 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action, Saturday afternoon.

Off a corner kick deflection, the ball found a wide-open O'Brien(Charlottetown, PE), who made no mistake in burying his first goal of the year for a 1-0 UNB lead.

For his efforts, O'Brien was named the Subway Player of the Match.

Max Vitrotti(Fredericton, NB) added an insurance marker in the 64th minute, on a set-play off a corner kick.

A charging Vitrotti connected on the corner from Kalen Park(Calgary, AB), and tapped in his first of the year.

Evan Barker(Winnipeg, MB) earned the shut-out, his fifth straight clean sheet, as UNB improved to 3-0-4.

SMU goalie Christian Oxner(Halifax, NS) made seven saves, as the Huskies fell to 0-4-2 .

Up next for UNB, the CBU Capers. The game is October 15th, at UNB's BMO Centre. SMU is at Memorial that same day.
