The UNB Varsity Reds had a very exciting and successful 2013 season

The Reds were determined to build on the success of the 2012 season and were ready to take their place amongst the top teams in the country.  UNB spent each week of entire season ranked within the CIS National Top 10 rankings.

The Varsity Reds proved to be the class of the AUS Conference by winning the league title for the second straight year.  UNB won 8 games(MTA twice, UdeM, CBU, SMU, UPEI, STFX, MUN), tied 3 games (UPEI, ACA, Dal), and lost 2 games (UdeM, CBU).  The Varsity Reds were second in league scoring with 25 goals and second in goals allowed with 11.

The V-Reds impressive defensive play carried over to the AUS Conference Championship where they defeated CBU 1-0 in the semi-final, and SMU 3-0 in the final to claim the AUS banner.

Next the Varsity Reds switched their focus to the CIS National Championships that were held at the BMO Centre on the UNB campus.  The Reds won their opening match 2-1 in extra-time against the University of Saskatchewan.  This victory put UNB in the National semi-final against Laval.  The teams remained deadlocked after 90 minutes of regulation and the two 15 minute periods of overtime.  Eventually Laval won the shoot-out thus ending the V-Reds chance for a National title.  UNB went on to the Bronze Medal game where they were to play the top-scoring team in the country, York.  The Reds defense came through with another strong performance shutting out York in the run of play.  This time the Reds were successful in the shoot-out and captured the CIS Bronze Medal.
