UNB Men's Soccer team defeat Memorial 3-0
The UNB Men’s soccer team defeated Memorial University 3-0 in their first game in the double-header weekend.

Benjamin Law scored the first goal in minute 68 of play, and followed it with another goal in minute 91. Yousuf Mohammad followed in minute 92 with a goal of his own.

“I think we had considerable pressure on them throughout the entire game, and we really should have scored probably two or three goals earlier in the match, so I think the score line at the end of the day probably reflects the number of chances we had,” said head coach Miles Pinsent.

With freezing temperatures, tempers flared as the game went on and several yellow cards were given out to both teams after a fight broke out when a UNB player tripped over the Memorial Goalie.

“I think neither team really wanted to play composed and keep the ball so it did kind of turn into a physical affair,” he said.

Goalkeeper Aaron McMurray was able to keep the score at 0 with a shut-out in the first game against Memorial.

“The talk before the game was to try and make them play with us for 90 minutes and see if they can, and I am looking forward to seeing if they can play with us for 90 minutes on the second day.

The men play Memorial again on Sunday October 14.
